I went to a screening last night put on by KCRW as part of "Matt's Movies" for Morgan Spurlock's new film, Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope. I'm not a comic person AT ALL. I have never owned a comic (well, maybe an Archie and Jughead in my awkward pre-teen years). I do however like Morgan Spurlock's movies and this sounded like a guaranteed fun time so I couldn't pass this up. I have to say, I really enjoyed it, laughed a lot, and I actually cried at one point (I'll own it- it was a touching moment!). Who's the nerd now? Me, I know. The movies follows 7 people as they prepare and attend Comic-Con. They all really just love the comic-con world - it's sweet and pure and you can't help but feel warm and fuzzy about these people. The 2 story lines I enjoyed the most were about a costume designer, Holly Conrad, and about a self professed geek couple who fell in love at comic-con. The comic-con world embraces it's geeky reputation and the people who go definitely are a breed all their own and it's just so much fun to watch this play out. A lot of us geek out about one thing another- whether it's food, Hunger Games, Batman, or hair products- there's something exciting about being with other people who share your passion and just reveling in your nerdy delights.
Check out the trailors here. Keep an open mind and a good sense of humor and go watch this movie. It opens today in select theaters, On Demand, and on itunes. Let me know what you think! Have a great weekend- enjoy whatever holiday you celebrate (or don't celebrate) this weekend.
Geeky moment of my own- we spotted Duff Goldman of Charm City Bakery in the crowd tonight and I got stupidly excited! This might be the appropriate time to mention that I went to the reality tv convention last year and totally felt at one with my people. You can make fun of me for this, but it had a lot of potential.

Viva la Cesar!
Hats off to Cesar Chavez! It's a long weekend for me and I'm thankful that there isn't rain in the forecast. It looks pretty nice and that makes me want to do one thing: wear sandals and do something fun outside!
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and some time in the sun! PS- aren't those sandals so cute? Wishlist!

Happy {Hunger Games} Friday!
| I got a bad case of Peeta Feeva! |
It's a super special weekend and I hope you're as excited as we are. When I say we, I mean pretty much all my friends! Yes we are adults and hopelessly obsessed with The Hunger Games. I finished the third book last night- perfect timing. I feel all consumed by excitement to see this movie in a way I never have about a movie before, well maybe Sex and the City, but that's different. I'm going to see the movie on Saturday and in the meantime, I've really been enjoying Josh Hutcherson's Jaw!
I leave you with this amazing spoof on Lana Del Rey's Videogames:
Are you going to see it this weekend, did you go last night? Ready, set, talk about all things Hunger Games!!!

Beets+Oranges= BFF
Beets and oranges go together like Bert and Ernie. This week we roasted up some beets and made a few different beet salads and this is the one I liked best.
All you need are a few roasted beets (or the packaged roasted beets from Trader Joes), oranges, salt, pepper, goat cheese, and balsamic glaze or vinegar (I got mine at Whole Foods). No fancy recipe needed, just toss together and drizzle with the balsamic.
Happy Friday everyone and try something new this weekend!

Happy August Friday!
This was one of those very long weeks. It seems that everyone I talked to had a long week. Well kids- the week is winding down and it's Friday! It's not just any Friday though, it's the 1st Friday in August. If you live in LA, swing by Abbot Kinney tonight for 1st Fridays on Abbot Kinney. All the shops are open, lots of wine around, good people, and beautiful Venice weather. More info here. Enjoy the sunshiney weekend!
